MUSICAL COMMENT BY THE AUTHOR

Ashrei - A melody with a Jewish character, sung and repeated in unison by the male choir, contrasts and blends with the theme of an expansive orchestral Fugue. It is the announcement of the Eucharistic celebration.

Kyrie - The original Armenian melody is entirely preserved and rebounds dramatically between the soloist and the choir in a whirl of notes, in which the orchestra retells the story of the grief and loyalty of the Armenian people.

Trisagion - The famous Byzantine melody enters joyfully into the harmony of voices and instruments, in a hymn glorifying the Holy Trinity and invoking God's mercy.

Nachid El Cheroubim - The invitation to leave the cares of the world, to hear the Word of God and join the Alleluia of the angels, is made irresistible by the river of joy that comes from the chorus and the orchestra.

Creed - One by one, the male choir sings the truths of the Christian faith in the psalmodic, harmonized mode, typical of the Russian Church. The orchestra intercedes, interpreting musically the sense of the words.

Litany of Saints - The ancient Gregorian melody is assigned to the various voices of the choir, while the instruments are echoing the voices of the angels and the saints in heaven, as they join the prayer of the entire Church on earth.

Brunn Alles Heils - A single voice initiates the powerful melody of this sixteenth century Cantorale from Geneva; the other voices of the choir then join, verse by verse, in a crescendo of praise, in which the instruments, in baroque counterpoint, echo the resonant sounds of heaven.

Surp (Sanctus) - The wonderful Armenian melody resounds as if without end, poignantly evoking the adoration hymn of the seraphim.

Abun Dashmayo - The individual petitions of the Lord’s Prayer are pronounced by the soloist, as by Christ; the Assembly takes up the melody in a higher tone and then, all together, as one Body of Christ, we turn to the Father.

YeGena Mezmur - Fragments from a Christmas carol of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, and from its pre-Eucharistic invocation of Mercy, are elaborated by the choir in the manner of a Renaissance motet so as to represent the Lamb of God: the shepherds go to Bethlehem, the House of Bread, to worship the Lord.

Apuro - The impressive melody, which the Copts date back to the time of the Pharaohs, is performed first by the baritone soloist and then by the choir; meanwhile the instruments weave a theme that resembles the shaking of the branches of palm and olive at the entrance of the true King of Peace into Jerusalem.

Gethsemane - The passionate Assyrian–Chaldean melody is sung by the soloist and then by the choir, discretely supported by the orchestra. At the end, the music blossoms out in ornamental passages, as if to recall the flight of the angel that came down to comfort Jesus.

Salwa El Qulubi - A fragment of the Maronite antiphon dedicated to the blessed Virgin Mary, popularly sung in Jerusalem, is the basis for the last piece of the Symphony. The theme is developed in ten variations which, thanks to the voice of the soprano Elisa Balbo, echo the Magnificat of the Virgin Mary with mounting cheerfulness and joy.

A GREAT CANTICLE, BORN FROM A LOVE FOR THE CHURCH, THE MYSTICAL BODY OF CHRIST
The Eucharistic Symphony was born from the admiration and love of the Western Christian Communities for the Eastern Christian Communities: despite centuries of marginalization and persecution, and with extreme poverty of means, these have passed on and consigned to the memory of the entire Church the words and melodies of the early Christian centuries, inherited from the cultures and civilizations that carried them.
For a Christian artist, the heritage of Beauty which flourished around the Liturgy of the various Churches, passed over from ancient books, expressed in prayers that date back to the early Fathers of the Church, adorned with robes, beautiful icons, explained by moving signs and symbols, accompanied by venerable melodies, is a gift of the Holy Spirit to the Community of Christians. Through the ministry of music and poetry, in fact, the profoundly symphonic character of the Scriptures, of which only Christ is the key, is expressed, as well as the Mystery of the Church, of which unity is the vocation.
The Eucharistic Symphony, which unites the traditions of the various Churches, therefore was born as a great Canticle: so that the taste of the living water may again become familiar on the Eucharistic tables of the Churches of the West, and the "two lungs of the One Church of Christ" unite in a loud song, a happy and dignified song to the One God, living in the Three Divine Persons.
